Arlynn Earns Player of the Year…Again!

Lawton Chiles Middle School 8th grader, Arlynn Spence,  did it again!   She retained the top spot at the Polk County Middle School Golf Championship after posting a 37, which was the lowest for both the girls and boys divisions.

She also retained the distinguished title of Girls Player of the Year for her school.

The Ledger, Lakeland’s local newspaper, interviewed Arlynn who appears even more humble with each win.

“I started out rough, (double bogey and bogey) but I stayed positive and stayed focused,” she said. “I prayed and I stayed focused.”

Spence, who won last year, settled down and picked up two birdies. She nearly had a hole-in-one as she left her tee shot 4 inches from the cup on the eighth hole.

The birdies gave Spence some breathing room as she beat Bok Academy’s Reeya Patel by three strokes.  Patel was in a different group, so Spence did not know where she stood at the end of her round.

“I had no idea if I won,” she said. “I was just very thankful.”

Arlynn posted a 37, five strokes better than her win last year!
